Standards is one of the main elements that were discussed at the Trade and Technology Council between the EU and the US that took place in Pittsburgh last 29 September.

In particular, among the outcomes of the meeting, the Working Group 1 on technology standards has been established, with the aim to “develop approaches for coordination and cooperation in critical and emerging technology standards, including AI and other emerging technologies”. According to the text of the conclusions,  “the European Union and the United States support the development of technical standards in line with their core values, and recognise the importance of international standardization activities underpinned by core WTO principles”.
